Great Race Texas Returns to Granbury in March 2008

The 20th annual Great Race Texas returns to its roots in 2008 when it is hosted by the City of Granbury. Great Race Texas 2008 is scheduled for March 7 – 9.

Granbury is also home to Sandi and Sister McRae, the wife and sister of the late Great Race founder, Tom McRae. The small community was also the home to the Great Race organization and Great Race Texas from 1996-2002.

Much like national Great Race events, Great Race Texas features classic cars in an open-road, rally race designed by John Classen, Great Race’s world-class course designer.

The three-day event kicks off with a rally on Friday, March 7, followed by a cruise-in and car show on the Historic Square down town. On Saturday, participants can enjoy another day of competition and then end the day with some “spirited driving” on one of the road racing courses at nearby Motorsports Ranch, hosted by the Roush Owners and Enthusiasts Association. Sunday wraps up with a morning of rallying fun and end with an Awards presentation at Sandi McRae’s Celebration Hall.

Pecan Plantation - Granbury Neighborhood

Out of all the Lake Granbury Neighborhoods, it was Pecan Plantation that delighted me the most, even compared to the expansive views of Bent Water and the water front properties of other areas. Why? Oh, you just have to see for yourself! It's p-h-e-n-o-m-e-n-a-l. It's affordable. It's quaint. It's peaceful. It's located between the historic Brazos river and a giant pecan orchard. I've never experienced anything quite like it. I had to come straight home and write this article to tell you all about it.

It's, it's, it's like nothing else in Texas.

After passing the manned gate at the entrance of Pecan Plantation, you are confronted with rows of Pecan trees on your right. Soon you pass over THE Brazos River by a short bridge. You're like, HELLO! It's neat. Imagine walking your dog along the Brazos River! It's unfathomable to a city girl like me. But the fun doesn't stop there.

Next, you are welcomed by 10 + baby deer. Yes, baby deer. Better go slow. These deer are tame, but they don't know to stay out of the well-paved street. Seems deer are cuckoo for pecans and thus the neighborhood is overflowing with these delicate little creatures that practically blend in with the fall foliage.

Drive around the curve and look to your right and see a row of unique homes, some built in the 1980s, some in the 1990s and some brand new. The greatest part about this row of homes is this view. This view. This view. I'm too stunned to describe it. Breathtaking is minuscule compared to the images you get of the Brazos river banks and behind it, the most alluring hills and trees and sky that eyes can behold. This is all in your backyard. I repeat. You have a "look-out" worthy view in your backyard just within one hour of Fort Worth.

The homes across the street aren't too shabby either. Those hedge up to the peaceful quietude of the Pecan orchard with all the baby deer prancing tither and fro. These deer pop into your yard and come within five feet of you. I made friends with two little fawns, but they ran away when I started singing. So, keep the karaoke to a minimum. We also saw a host of wild turkeys.

Homes in Pecan Plantation in Granbury, Texas range from the $100s to the low $1 Millions. No, there is no lake front homes in this quaint neighborhood, but the Brazos River takes your breath away. You do not want to miss visiting Pecan Plantation.
